Kareena Kapoor opts out due to Hrithik Roshan

Kareena Kapoor is not doing Zoya Akhtar ’s directorial debut Kismat Talkies because of Hrithik Roshan .

Reports are that Hrithik had been having second thoughts about doing the project and now has officially opted out of the film.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, co-star Kareena too has given the project a miss.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani (who runs Excel Entertainment along with partner and Zoya’s brother Farhan Akhtar ) had earlier said that they would start filming in May 2007 as Kareena had given dates from then on, but then Hrithik started demanding changes in the script making Zoya go hunting for a new hero.

It is learnt that she spoke to Akshay Kumar , but he too gave her the cold shoulder.

Apparently Kareena had allotted the same dates to Imtiaz Ali’s next film. A source says, “Once Hrithik opted out, Kareena decided not to do the film either.

When contacted, Imtiaz excused himself from telling when he is starting his film with Kareena. “I am sitting with some people. Let’s talk later,” he said.

The source adds, “Things haven’t been easy for Zoya from the time she planned the film. She was supposed to make her debut with a film titled ‘Luck — By Chance’ in 2004. Unfortunately, the film never took off.

But her tone clearly suggested that she was in no mood to defend the actors who have given her so much anxiety. them.

The story revolves around finding Don to avenge Kamini - Kareena

She may have received mixed reactions for her gyrating to 'Yeh Mera Dil' on 'Don - The Chase Begins Again', but nothing can stop the Kapoor girl from being overtly excited about this biggie that arrives on October 20th.

She says, "Experimenting is something that I have always loved and when I was asked to do a character role, something that I haven’t tried before, I thought for a second. I thought about ‘Don’ the all time classic, Helen aunty; whose a legend in her own rights and then of the song – ‘Ye Mera Dil’ one of my favorites. And I said “I’d love to do something like this.”

Kamini’s role is brief but very pivotal. The story revolves around finding Don to avenge Kamini and her fiance’s murder. So this is where it really starts. She’s also the first one to have come really close to having caught Don… but then …“Don ko pakkadna mushkil hi nahin Naamumkin Hai.”

To conclude I feel totally honored to be put in the same league as Helen aunty and I hope I have done justice to the role."

Kareena the New Item Girl

Kareena Kapoor is known to be best friends with her ‘Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai’ co-star Tusshar Kapoor. That’s why she has agreed to appear in a promotional item song for Tusshar starrer ‘Kya Love Story Hai’.

The cast of the film includes Ayesha Takia and the shooting is currently in progress in South Africa. Kareena’s number will be canned once the unit returns. The film is also the launch pad of maverick director Satish Kaushik’s assistant Lovely Singh. And it has been produced by N R Pachisia.

Kareena seems to be mastering the art of item number after her ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ number in ‘Don’ hiking the heat waves…Bebo seems to be the next big item girl.

I can't match Helen: Kareena

Bebo, whose performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s recent Omkara drew critical acclaim, makes a cameo appearance in the Farhan Akhtar remake, slated for a release this Diwali.

In the film Kareena attempts to seduce the new Don with a dance sequence performed to the beat of a remixed 'Ye Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana', one of the two songs retained from the original film.

For those who have not seen the original Don Kareena's cameo will be just an item number. Others will compare it with the performance by the inimitable Helen.

Explaining her cameo in Idol Chat on TV show a few weeks earlier Kareena said, "Its great. I am nervous because I don't think I could ever match up to Helen aunty. What she has done is something else altogether and there is absolutely no comparison."

But why did the popular actress agree to do a cameo in Don? To relive the Asoka magic, perhaps! Well, SRK and Kapoor were last seen together in Santosh Sivan's Ashoka and she is excited at being paired opposite SRK, after a gap of five years.

Don’s preview video clips show Kapoor turned out in a gold and brocade outfit. The dance sequence is choreographed by Farah Khan while the music is by Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy. It may be recalled that in Chandra Barot's original, Asha Bhonsle was the voice of Helen on screen. This time round, the song has been sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

No more routine roles even in big projects: Kareena Kapoor

Source: IANS

Post-"Omkara", Kareena Kapoor is planning new career moves and says she won't take up any more frivolous films.

"I've decided to take on only roles that challenge me. No more routine roles even in big projects. After 'Omkara', I feel I've reached a stage where I need to build on my reputation as an actress.

"I'm changing my priorities with the audience. I've done enough run-of-the-mill movies. Until I get something as challenging as 'Omkara' I'd rather stay at home and play with my niece Samaira," Kareena told to sources.

Kareena, who is now looking for meatier roles, turned down "Page 3" but has no regrets.

"Good Konkona (SenSharma) did it. I couldn't have done it as well as her. I think I'm more prepared for it now. I regret turning down Shyam Benegal's film."

Excerpts:

Q: Were you nervous about "Omkara"?

A: Anxious. I just want to know how the audience would react to the new Kareena Kapoor. Vishal Bharadwaj has made me over completely. I feel I've been re-born in "Omkara". Vishal's emotions are very real. I did another realistic film, Govind Nihalani's "Dev". But I didn't have much to do there.

Q: But you got tremendous accolades for "Dev".

A: I know. But I wish more people had seen it. Things have changed a lot since then. Today audiences are far more open to new cinematic experiences. Whether it's an out and out entertainer like "Don" or an intense gripping drama like "Omkara", the audience is ready for any kind of new experience.

Q: What preparations did you make for "Omkara"?

A: I was definitely anxious during the first few days. But Vishal made it easier for me. You know I don't believe in preparation. But I did one thing for "Omkara" that I had never done before. I gave all my attention to it. This is the first time I've done only one film at a time. I had all the time to focus on my character, make it more real than anything I've done.

Q: You worked with new co-stars.

A: Yes, Saif and I have only a couple of scenes together. We had worked together in "LOC". My co-star in "Omkara" Ajay Devgan is a fabulous person. I know him from my childhood when he was my sister's co-star. Ajay was involved in the film's production in every way possible. I had most of my scenes with him. Ajay made everything so much easier for me.

Q: Did the challenge of doing something so different scare you?

A: No. In fact, I've decided to take on only roles that challenge me. No more routine roles even in big projects. I don't mind saying no to anybody. After "Omkara", I feel I've reached a stage where I need to build on my reputation as an actress. It needn't be offbeat or realistic. But I'm all for a film that goes into unknown territory.

I think audiences are tired of watching boy meets girl. They want to know what happens after that. If you look at recent hits like "Rang De Basanti" and "Fanaa", they've all gone beyond expectations.

I'm changing my priorities with the audience. I've done enough run-of-the-mill movies. Until I get something as challenging as "Omkara", I'd rather stay at home and play with my niece Samaira.

Q: So you're starting afresh?

A: Absolutely. I want to do only the roles that challenge me as an actress. It doesn't have to be something that centres on me. But I must have something interesting to do. Even if I've to wait for a year I'm willing to do so. If I had the guts to start my career with "Refugee", I can very well do something unexpected at this stage of my career.

Q: But you had gone from natural to glam-doll in your second film.

A: That's because "Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai" happened to me after "Refugee". I needed to be completely glamorous. Today cinema has changed. So have I.

Q: You've become mellower now?

A: It's life, my dear. It's taught me to look at the brighter side. Today I'm happy being an actress. It doesn't matter whether I'm in "36 China Town", "Chup Chup Ke" and then in "Omkara", all in one row.

Q: Why was there so little of you in "Chup Chup Ke"?

A: Ask Priyadarshan. Thank god, no dubbing (she played a mute character). But "Omkara" has me speaking in a different accent and dialect. But Ajay and Konkona have a much tougher dialect than Viveik Oberoi and me. The dialogues are so well written by Vishal.

Q: Do you like being a role model for urban youngsters?

A: I think youngsters like me because I believe in myself. I try to achieve what I have to. Youngsters identify with that. I'm ambitious. I came in the industry to achieve something. And, sorry, I'm not going to leave until I achieve it even if I'm pushed out.

Q: Whom did you bond the best with in "Omkara"?

A: Konkona is such a lovely girl. We're still in touch even after the film. She's so casual in spite of being such a good artist. She's effortlessly good in her scenes. I was supposed to do her role in "Page 3". Good she did it. I couldn't have done it as well as her.

Q: Would you do "Page 3" today?

A: I think I'm more prepared for it now. I regret turning down Shyam Benegal's film too.

Q: So no Kareena after "Omkara" for a long time?

A; I'm listening to scripts. And I have a cameo in Farhan Akhtar's "Don". I had a ball shooting for it. I loved dancing to Helen aunty's song. No one can match up to her.

Q: You just went to Antwerp for a show. Do you think there's an audience for live concerts?

A: Of course, there is! They're crazy about us in the US, Canada and the UK. Our last concert Rock Stars didn't do that well but there were many reasons for that.

Q: How's your sister Karisma doing?

A: She's doing well. She's in Mumbai with her baby. She's open to hearing scripts. She wants to play power-packed roles in slightly offbeat films. She's looking her best these days. Pencil-thin and ready to face the camera.

Biography

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor

Yet another Kapoor girl to have made a splash in the Hindi films industry, Kareena Kapoor had the privilege of debuting with Amitabh Bachchan's son, Abhishekh Bachchan.

Never in the history of films has a star sibling risen to a status of a mega star in a short period of time as has Kareena Kapoor. Even as a 10-year-old, when Beboo (as she’s fondly called) tried on wigs and new shades of lipsticks in her sister Karisma’s make-up room, everyone knew that she would eventually join movies. But even her mother Babita, who has an iron hand over her daughters, could not foretell the extent of her success.

The first unconventional step she took was by signing Refugee immediately after rejecting Rakesh Roshan’s Kaho Naa Pyar Hai. Minor differences led to her walking out of the project, and wisely so, since the film did nothing for its heroine Amisha Patel. Refugee was a perfect launch for Kareena, who with her ethereal looks managed to carve a niche for herself as a performing actress as opposed to a glamour doll.

The film did not do well but she was noticed. She had done Yaadein in opposite Hrithik, and Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gham, Ashoka opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Mujhe Kuch Khena Hai opposite Tusshar Kapoor, then she has Sooraj Barjatya’s film, a love triangle with both Hrithik and Abhishek Bachchan. In 2003 Kareena's Chameli released in which her performance is being noticed. She got Stardust special award for Chameli.

Her spunk is what separates her from rest of the glam brigade. And beneath that translucent skin lies a hunger that a truckload of her fav. snicker bars can't satiate. She brushes aside her famine at the box office. She's supremely confident it will bow to her one day. She believes in herself strongly. She's certainly convinced a long line of filmmakers, fat pay packets in hand. Now all she needs is one blockbuster.

Her other films soon to be released is Mani Rathnam's Yuva and Govind Nihalani's Dev. In these films she tried to dress and act completely according to the characters. Her other films are with Dharmesh Darshan's Bewafaa and Priyadarshan's Hulchul.
